Scientific Vacuum Systems’ Control Systems are based on reliable PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) and usually an HMI (Human Machine Interface).

The PLC software uses proven operational techniques, which provide reliable system operation, as well as comprehensive fault/alarm monitoring and recovery. The software structure includes for many built-in, self-checking interlocks, where these are required between conflicting actions, this same logic applying both in Auto and Manual modes. PLCs used include Mitsubishi, Seimens and Allen Bradley (Rockwell).

Various types of HMI are used. Depending on the level of system complexity, process recipe handling requirements or process/data logging, this may take the form of a suitable proprietary display unit (such as the Rockwell ControlLogix) or a standard PC, running a SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) package. In both cases, the emphasis is on providing a clear, user-friendly operator control interface.
